I am really overwhelmed by my job and don't feel very effective anymore. I became a social worker to help people and just don't feel that my current job allows me to do that because I have too much work. Not to mention some serious upper management issues and a lack of stability. But I have been there a long time and get to work from home, which allows me a lot of flexibility. This is important as I am a single mother. But I know there is another job out there that would be just as overwhelming, but pay quite a bit more and offer better benefits. But it would be working for the county, which is a crazy system and may also be difficult to feel effective in helping kids and families. Also I wouldn't have nearly as much flexibility. I am so confused. I have been torturing myself about this for months now. Any thoughts, advice, greatly appreciated.

i play co-ed softball--have been for about 15 years in the same league. so, my team faces the same teams, with various changes through out the years.

this year, one of our teams has a transgendered person, a girl now, but still has many obvious male traits, the broad shoulders and thick neck and narrow hips. AND a pretty hot bat (no pun intended) now, this being berkeley and all, we are used to ...whatever, it's all about letting your freak flag fly freely, right? but it sucks to have to face a team that essentially has 3 guys in a row in their line up. especially when it's a struggle to find enough girls so that your team doesn't forfeit.

it's causing a bit of a buzz and i think it may have recently gone to a formal complaint. yesterday one of the blues said he recognized the "girl" from last seasons thursday nite (all guys) league.

so far...it's just been a subject that my team mates & i have bitched to ourselves about. should i stir it up more? ask our captain to join in the formal complaint?

i just started a new job and am in my 3rd week of my probationary 90 days which don't have any benefits.

i got a jury duty notice. if i don't work, i won't get paid.

i think last time, i misplaced the notice and the date came & went without reprocussion. i hear that they get the pool of people from dmv and voting registration and i seem to get one of these every year like clockwork.

i have been hanging onto my dinosaur of a phone-a sony erikson, for a long time and am due for an upgrade.

i am trying out the cute Pantech C300 and have 30 days with it before it's a done deal.

i checked out others...i don't need much. want a camera phone & to be able to send pics & text but don't want to pay too much for it--after all technology is so hot-today-old-tomorrow.

i have cingular, which i'm kind of tied to since i pay for my mom's phone too so it would be a hassle to change them both (she lives in fresno, so it's not just a matter of taking hers in too--i'll have to re-enter her address book too.

any recommendations for compatibles??

last time i asked a question people were mean here.
but whatever, its worth a shot. i think this tribe is a good idea.
i have trouble making desicions, and i actually would appreciate random advice from strangers.
cuz dont be an asshole just because i cant see your face. with that said..

i've really bad luck (or something) with roommates. they dont pay rent and use me and manipulate me and steal and its been horrible experience after horrible experience... and i'm through.
my parents give me money to go to school and live comfortably, and so technically i can afford the two-bedroom to myself.
i realized its actually cheaper to do that than to have a roommate, because they always end up not paying rent and just making the bills higher, as well as stressing me out.
so i'm turning the other bedroom into an art studio. i'm very lucky i can do this.
the problem is, the reason people use me is because they know i have money. in fact, they hate me for it. i just lost one of my good friends over this. he hates me and stole hella shit from me and we just got into a big fight, and he admits he hates me because i have money.
i have learned that i cant trust anyone.
i feel like it would be smart for me to hide that i have money. thats what i was trying to do by having a roommate, but it was absolutely not worth the pain. i'm not very good at lying but i can learn if it comes down to it.
i want the two bedroom to myself, because having and art studio and no leeches is great...
but when i meet people, they ask where i live and how i live and with who, and how much is the rent and do i have a job. i wish they wouldnt ask. this has brought me to an interesting dilemma.
i've been honest with these people so far, and so from the get-go they think of me as someone with money and i dont like that.
i need to start hiding it.
should i move to a one bedroom so ask to seem normal?, or come up with some lies and just never have anyone over?
maybe i should say i have a roommate but he's on vacation and just keep that door shut all the times?
i'd rather be honest but it makes everyone into an enemy and i dont want to be fucked over anymore.
i dont want to be seen that way.

i have been putting very little effort into my job search. and only received one reply for further info from my own efforts. but the networking! i have someone interested from a past co-worker reference that i sent a resume today and my ONE interview, this morning, (from my friend's referral)the interviewer was pleasant enough but the interview lasted 15 minutes tops and i was sure my salary history was over their limit.

so i've been lazy, is what i'm saying

and i don't think i'm truly ready to go back to work, tho i need to--i can't make it on unemployment alone. i've been doing some side work with friends, painting , furniture refinishing, inspections, dog washer/walkers....
and all this is a way to keep on sleeping in and staying up late as is my natual body clock's desire..

i think this job would be ok--it's not feasible to take bart/public transpo so gas being what it is will probably make my salary requirements higher and i haven't even calculated that yet...and this being my birthday week, i'm hesitating even calling her back on it, for fear she will spoil my plans to be spoiled and pampered and want me to begin the hiring process and re-enter the rat race.

should i, dare i put her off a bit? what are good reasons to delay the process and still make me sound like a good potential employee. i hate to lie.

ironically, i have a streak of birthday hirings that all end up being short term of around a year and i want something long term and permanent.

so i have a friend who sleeps on my living room floor and doesn't pay rent. i used to have a big crush on him, but i'm over it. he cooks vegan food for me, which is nice, and is straightedge, which is nice because i'm trying to be sXe too and its easier with others sXe's. but also, he flirts with every girl who isnt me and brings girls over and hurts my feelings all the time. he wont get a job cuz he's an anarchist. he's basically just squatting here.
he helps me to be straightedge and vegan, but i worry that he's using and manipulating me. it makes me sad. should i kick him out or not?

I wish I could consult my subconscious mind on this issue. Here's my theory from a cosmic, spiritual perspective:

I haven't grown up yet because I have a really hard time with basic responsibilities like:

--joining the corporate world so I can have the various insurances that men [especially my age] need, as well as salary to live the comfortable life, and a pension for old age, etc.

--taking care of basic stuff like my taxes

--I've gone out with either too-young chicks or psychochicks, or now--this is new--paying for tantric whoring

--not being a good dad to my kid

Okay. I think I'm gonna stop the list here. I feel like I'm in a confessional already.

Because of said immaturity, I feel as if I attract stupid shit, like the 17 year old who is trying to come on to me, etc.

Okay. So my point is, I don't live a life according to the ubiqitous mores of the all-encompassing society I find myself immersed in. Now, I've had a shit parade come up and have had to deal with some issues. The latest, [taxes notwithstanding and still on hold], is moving to a new place.

Zen forwarded me a listing on tribe. An available room in Santa Monica. So, this means a roommate situation.

Just the night before, I got thoroughly depressed--I mean the black kind, but luckily for only an hour or so--about being an old guy and not having the dignity of my OWN place to live. The roommate thing is embarassing. As long as I have roommates, I'll probably NEVER get laid again, the way I see it. And getting laid again is up there on my list of really likeable things to do.

But I digress. I PM'd the the girl about the listing and went to go see the place. Now, check THIS out:

--free cable
--DSL already hooked up to the bedroom
--FREE underground parking
--small patio
--BIG living room downstairs
--three bathrooms
--location, location, location [OPB and 14th--exactly central to my comings and goings]
--the kicker: **in-apartment** WASHER AND DRYER

But that's not the real kicker, the real kicker is that the rent is $425.00 a month.

So I'm thinking:

"...okay. I'll never get laid again, and no women will ever love me because I'll be living here...but THINK of the washer/dryer; THINK of the cheap rent!; THINK of how easy it will be to park..."

Okay so here's the down side of it all:

--the room is small, almost smaller than the one I'm in.
--one of my roomies will be a college student. Luckily, the lessee is in his thirties so I would't feel like a complete buffoon
--the place is not beautiful, but has potential to be spiffed up. It verges on looking like a messy bachelor pad. The stove was so dirty that even *I* would volunteer to clean it up.

Now. To up the ante, the scenario here has changed a bit. The room I was looking at, this incredible bargain, is opening up on July 1st. But Simone gave me a reprieve and said I can stay here until August.

To tell the truth, in spite of my loss of dignity [which I'm getting used to anyway], I am very, very interested in taking the room. I figure it's a pretty loose situation. No lease signing from what I can see. In the meantime, with cheap rent like this, I may be able to save enough money, and to keep working on my life to get to the point where I can get into a dignified space over the next year. Or maybe even rich and famous and shit, and thereby never have to worry about tang and other necesssities of life.

Dunno. The place is definitely on the collegiate side, and like I said, I'll probably never have sex again, but it's almost too good a bargain to pass up.

i am almost thru the pack i bought yesterday (5 left) and tomorrow, if i have none, i prolly won't go out just to get more but if they're their and i park my butt in front of the computer (very likely) i'll smoke more.

but i'll stay up late tonight (also very likely) and crave for the evil habit. AND i have no pot to take it's place. double :(

I'm not sure if this topic is appropriate for this tribe, but I really need some advice. Here it goes-

Girl (me) meets boy. Boy invites girl out. Boy and girl have good time, get busy and don't talk for two months. Boy runs into girl and insists that girl calls boy so they can hang out. Girl does just that and they start messing around. A few intense sexual encounters later girl realizes she may like boy more than she should. Shit. Girl asks boy what's going on with them (horrible idea, I know). Boy gives the 'not ready for anything serious, but would really like to be your friend' talk. Very much expected. Fine-not a problem. A few dinner and a movie nights later boy and girl have another great night of lovin'. Shit again.

I feel like I made that way more complicated than it had to be. Sorry about that. Any words of wisdom? I need advice from people who haven't known me for 5+ years.

there was this brief flirtation with a cute young studmuffin that led to phone calls and one breakfast date. More phone calls & innuedo of more to come but I called him last at the phone number he gave me which is his brother's house number...he never gave me his cell number tho' I'm pretty sure he has one. In my last call a week ago. I left a message with his brother for him to call me and have not heard back from him.

I found this pic in someone's profile and it made me go into a fit of giggles......

I wouldn't do it now, with winter/rainy season approaching but would it be so horrible in the summer? Having my cat, Monkey, walk around with the big head and fur boots--that would keep a smile on my face ALL summer?

What say you all? Cruel and inhumane or harmless entertainment? For the record, Monkey is a very good natured cat. One who allows me to bathe him, comes when called, gets along with my doggies and generally his worst habit is waking me in the middle of the night to go in and out. Also, let it be said that he is not the best self groomer and lets his long hair get dreadlocked and is unmindful of stick and burrs in his long coat.

Dammit, I hate when this happens. My DVD of the month club sends me the selection of the month if I don't respond to their stupid little card. I guess I forgot to reply.

This month's selection was sent to me and I wanted to see it at the theaters but don't know if I want to open it & spend the $26.75 or just rent it & see it once to find out if it's a keeper. I know...the price is high but it goes towards the extortion of my agreement to purchase X many DVD.s to fulfill my membership agreement.

The movie is HELLBOY....
Have you seen it? what did you think? is it a keeper or should I send it back unopened and avoid it all together? Is it just a renter?

I do like comic book movies and special effects.

Please advise!!
